I thought that readers of the Island series and my short story, ‘Not My Usual Entrance’ would enjoy seeing home of the original Danish family that settled the estate at Frenchman’s Bay and established a dairy farm on the property, which spanned hundreds of acres, covered several mountains, and fronted Frenchman’s Bay and other smaller bays.
In the early 1950s, the house, its separate kitchen, two guest houses, and multi-stall outhouse were in ruin. All wood was infested with termites, and a family of goats occupied the main house.
My stepfather, James Robertson, fell in love with the view and the privacy. He hired a contractor, and his home for the coming decades arose, maintaining the olden-day simplicity of a nice sea breeze and a splendid view of the Caribbean.
Maybe you can imagine young Jennifer scampering across the verandah and nipping into the kitchen to help feed her beloved dog, and Anika Hegner strolling the grounds and pondering being a human with a few amazing Jumbee powers.
